Don't Waste Your Chewing Gum | AD

Chewing gum litter is a problem on our streets. Gum disposal causes the council £150 million a year in the UK! What's a solution to this sticky situation? Let me introduce you to Gumdrop Ltd.; the first company in the world to recycle and process chewing gum into a range of new products.

This blog post is part of my series which is called 'Simply Sustainable'

There has been a large amount of awareness for Climate Change recently through protests across the country and on the news, through different documentaries, on social media, petitions being signed and generally weather extremities worryingly taking place across the globe. In addition, there are other global problems such as inequality and poverty, among other things, that we should all help to improve worldwide by making small changes, or supporting organisations and companies that are combatting these global issues. I believe that it is time to change our lifestyles in small simple ways so we can all lead more sustainable lives to ultimately improve the future.

How does it work?

"Gum-tec is used to manufacture the Gumdrop and Gumdrop on-the-go, pink receptables designed specifically for the disposal of waste chewing gum. Gumdrops are bright pink and look like strawberry flavoured bubble gum bubbles, a fun, colourful replacement for the common blank eyesore of the white splodge. Once the Gumdrop is full, the whole Gumdrop along with its contents of waste gum is recycled and processed to manufacture new Gumdrops, the cycle starts again."

"Gumdrop Ltd also collaborate with manufacturers and companies globally to make products from recycled and processed chewing gum. With Gumdrop's help, recycled and processed chewing gum can become a vast number of things from wellington boots, to mobile phone covers, stationary, packaging and much more."

I was sent out some Gumdrop on-the-go bins to give them a go as well as being sent some Gum-tec products to try out. I was really interested in the technology and the Gum-tec process, and I was impressed with their products. Gumdrop Ltd certainly seems to be an amazing solution to chewing gum waste.

What are the Gumdrop on-the-go bins?

"Bottles, cans, glass, paper, batteries and more are collected everyday so why isn't chewing gum?"

Gumdrop Ltd have invented a simple and easy way for everyone to collect their chewing gum. Instead of throwing your chewing gum on the floor, searching for an old receipt to stuff it in or to hold it in your mouth until you find a bin, these little portable bins can be added to your keychain or carried in your bag with you on-the-go.

Once you have filled your portable bin you can drop it into one of Gumdrop's Drop Boxes located on some street locations or alternatively you can return them with a freepost label.

The Verdict

Gumdrop Ltd. is an amazing company that is changing the way we think about chewing gum waste! Using the on-the-go bins has been super simple and makes the disposal of gum effortless. The Gum-tec products are amazing to use too, and it is evident that the company's technology and process is successful. Once I have filled the bins fully, I will use the freepost label to send them back to be reused using Gum-tec!

Have you heard of Gumdrop Ltd.?
