Costa Without The Calories

Going for a coffee can be a difficult thing if you're trying to stay healthy as lots of the drinks available are very calorific. Many are pumped full with cream and sugar! Instead of avoiding all coffee shops, in this blog post I am going to share with you the best things to order and some tips if you ever find yourself staring at the drinks menu in a coffee shop looking for a low calorie drink?

If you are looking for a low calorie solution to your daily coffee then it's a great idea to make your own coffee at home. If you've got yourself into the habit of ordering a takeaway coffee from Costa or Starbucks everyday then a good idea is to invest in a takeaway coffee cup. You can create your own coffee at home and take it with you to work or wherever you go!

But how can I make a low calorie coffee at home?

You can always enjoy a black coffee which is basically a calorie free drink! But if you can't face a coffee without a little bit milk then it's a great idea to use skimmed milk instead of semi-skimmed or full-fat milk. Fat-free milk or low soy milk works well too but be careful for any added sugars in these diary substitutes.

When it comes to a sweetener I would always use a calorie-free sweetener instead of any white or brown sugar. However try not to use lots and lots of this artificial sweetener as, although it's calorie-free, it's still not that great for your health.

However if you really like ordering from an actual coffee shop when out and about, if you like going out for coffee with friends, or if you just can't be bothered to make your own coffee at home every morning then here are a few tips to follow when deciding what to you want to get...

Tips For Lower Calorie Coffee Shop Drinks

1. Order an Americano which is an almost calorie-free option (especially without the milk).
2. Or order a milk and sugar-free Tea (original, herbal or fruit) is a great low calorie drink.
3. Skip the whipped cream and marshmallows as added extras.
4. Request skimmed or soy milk
5. Don't ask for added syrup or if you would like syrup, you can always request a sugar-free syrup instead to enjoy the flavour without the added calories.
6. Order your drink in a smaller size.
7. Use a sweetener to sweeten your drink instead of white or brown sugar.

Hopefully these tips will help when you're next in Costa or Starbucks looking for those low calorie options!
