5 Ways to Overcome Negative Thoughts

'You cannot stop the waves, but you can learn to surf!'
- Jon Kabat-Zinn

We all have them days when it feels like the world is against us, when nothing is going our way and our face permanently aches with a frown. Perhaps we are tired, ill or just having a down-day. In this post I will share with you 5 ways to try and overcome negative thoughts.

1. Exercise

This is a key way to relieve stress and empty your mind of your negative thoughts. Why not go for a run, go to a yoga class or just take a walk? Getting out of the house and moving your body will give your body life and you will feel more energetic.

2. Smile

I know it can be hard sometimes, but just force a smile upon your face. It have been proven to make you feel 10 times better!

3. Surround yourself with positive people

I have such an amazing group of friends and family. My family are so supportive of me and my friends always make me smile and laugh. It is important to surround yourself with people that make you happy, other than people who give off negativity.

4. Sing

This is something I do all the time; even though my family hate it... Let's just say I'm not exactly the next Leona Lewis or Adele, but I love singing - and listening to music in general really! I listen to all types of music; grime, R&B, house, old school, rock and many more. I love listening to some throwbacks too such as The Black Eyed Peas, Busted or even High School Musical!

5. List 5 things that you are grateful for

I love this idea and it made me think. Listing 5 things that you are grateful for is a great way to look on the positive side, and you are able to see yourself and your life in a happier way. They could be big things like safety, family and relationships, or small things like you got a seat on the train this morning or you have spaghetti bolognese for dinner! I decided to write down my five things I am grateful for today...

My family, my friends, my health, my education and profiteroles! haha!

I hope you feel positive and are having a wonderful week!
